Okobojo Point Recreation Area is a scenic spot on Lake Oahe in South Dakota, offering beautiful views of the Missouri River and a long stretch of sandy beach. It’s a popular destination for those who enjoy water recreation and the outdoors.

Here’s what you can expect at Okobojo Point Recreation Area:

  • Scenic Beauty: Rolling hills, wide expanses of prairie, and outstanding vistas along the Missouri River create a picturesque setting.
  • Water Activities: Lake Oahe, a large reservoir, provides opportunities for boating, sailing, fishing, water skiing, jet skiing, diving, kayaking, and canoeing. The clear waters are perfect for swimming and enjoying the sun.
  • Sandy Beaches: Miles of sandy beaches are ideal for swimming, playing volleyball, shore fishing, or simply relaxing by the water.
  • Camping: The campground has 18 sites available on a first-come, first-served basis, with no hookups. Most sites are directly on the water, offering scenic views. Picnic tables are available at the campsites. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a leash.
  • Other Amenities: Okobojo Point also provides a boat ramp, picnic shelter, drinking water, and restrooms/showers. There is a day use fee. ADA/Accessible features are available.
    Historical Significance: The area is located in land explored by Lewis and Clark.

  • Camping is first-come, first-served.
  • Some facilities, like water systems and showers, may be closed from October 1 to April 30.
  • Vault toilets are usually open year-round.
  • Driving conditions might be challenging in winter due to potential severe weather.
